What is the Luby's ACT program? The Luby's ACT (Achieving Character Together) program offers Houston ISD middle school students in grades 6 through 8 an opportunity to be recognized every six weeks for demonstrating outstanding character. Luby's is always looking for ways to invest in the future of young people, that's why we are a proud sponsor of Houston ISD's Character Education Program through this initiative. Who is eligible to partcipate in this program? All students currently enrolled in grades 6–8 attending one of Houston ISD middle school or K–8 campuses are eligible to participate. What is the start date of this year's program? The 2009 - 2010 Luby's ACT (Achieving Character Together) officially begins on Monday, August 24, 2009. What is the last day to turn in nomination forms? The last day to submit all pledge forms is Monday, May 12, 2010. How are nominees selected? Nominees are selected by school staff members, including the teachers, secretaries, clerks, custodial staff, cafeteria staff, and administration. If a student is “Caught Doing Something Great,” the staff member will fill out a Luby's ACT nomination form and also give the student a Luby's ACT ticket. This ticket entitles the student to receive a free Coca-Cola soft drink with the purchase of a meal at any participating Luby's location. Nomination forms should be placed in the Luby ACT drop-off box in the principal's office. How often are nominees selected? Nominees are selected every six weeks. See nomination periods below:
How many six-week nominees will win at my school? Every six weeks there will be one six-week winner chosen from all the submitted nominees on each campus. Six-week winners have a chance at becoming a six-week overall winner and grand prize winner as well. How are nominations evaluated? Nominations are evaluated by a panel of judges from Luby's, the Houston ISD Character Education Department, and the Houston ISD Strategic Partnerships Department. Evaluations will be based on the contents of the nomination form. How are prize winners selected? Prizes will be awarded based on the recommendation of the judges. Every six weeks there will be one winner from each participating school. Additionally, there will be one overall HISD six-week winner chosen from the pool of six-week winners. There will also be one grand prize winner chosen at the end of the year. What are the prizes?
Prizes will be delivered to the campuses for distribution. If I win, can I get the cash value of the prize instead? No, unfortunately that option is not available. However, scholarships will be awarded by check. How will the scholarship be awarded? Luby's will provide the six-week overall winner and the grand prize winner with checks for the corresponding amounts. Winning students will also receive financial literacy and information courtesy of a chosen lending institution. Is there any cost associated with the contest? The program is free for all students in grades 6-8 who are currently enrolled in a Houston ISD middle or K-8 school. Will I be advised on the outcome of my nomination? All winners will be notified by the school administration. Winners will be posted on the campus, announced during the morning announcements and posted on the Luby's ACT website. |
